About the EBC

Some of you may wonder what the EBC is actually about. The answer is quite simple: The EBC is a down-to-earth organisation that brings together pragmatists from the business community of the OSCE countries as well as political representatives to discuss concrete entrepreneurial questions and topics of current economic relevance.

The EBC is to be regarded as providing a framework for a sustained dialogue across the borders between different cultures and mentalities. This dialogue is conducted at congresses and within the EBC's six working groups.

Especially in the working groups, each EBC member has the opportunity to select topics, discuss specific problems with other participants and, if appropriate, draw up political demands. A vehicle for transmitting such demands exists in the shape of the EBC Presiding Committee, which comprises high-level representatives of member companies and organisations. It has established numerous contacts with international organisations and governments of OSCE countries and is thus able to communicate the results achieved by the EBC working groups to decision-makers in business and politics.

Apart from this political aspect, the EBC makes it possible - due to the high number of east European members - to forge direct contacts between east and west European companies, obtain first-hand information and, last but not least, take advantage of business opportunities. The EBC is committed to the OSCE's basic objective of improving living conditions in the OSCE member countries by means of broad economic cooperation.
